HexSite®
Shooting Continuum

Pistol shooting is taught by JB Training LLC as a continuum which begins with threat focused aimed firing (point shooting) with transitions to sighted firing.

For threats which are relatively close (21 feet or less) , threat focused shooting is accomplished by close contact shooting, one-handed point shooting, or  two-handed point shooting. These techniques can be used to deliver combat effective hits when used at appropriate distances.  In point shooting aiming is accomplished by using the pistol or its slide as the aiming index. When used this way the brain has sufficient input to make combat effective shots at appropriate distances. Glock pistols with their shape make especially effective point shooting pistols. However any pistol that has a natural point of aim can be used effectively as well.  See the point shooting pages for more details on this technique.

As the distances to the threat increase it is necessary to switch to sighted shooting to deliver the same level of combat effective hits on the threat.  In a situation where very precise shots are needed use of the pistol sights is also required as point shooting does not deliver this level of precision.  A pistol equipped with  a HexSite® is very effective for making precision shots when they are called for.

Because the HexSite® uses Threat-Focused sighting it fits perfectly in the sighted shooting portion of the Threat-Focused shooting continuum.

Point Shooting

Point shooting is based on staring intently at the threat while delivering aimed fire by using the pistol or its slide to provide the brain with the visual input needed for achieving combat accuracy.

Since sighted shooting with a HexSite® also allows the shooter to focus on the threat, not the front sight, it provides a consistent means of sighting when transitioning from aimed fire to sighted fire.

HexSite® Shooting

The HexSite® sight is a combat sight designed to allow the focus of the shooter to be on the threat while keeping both eyes open (binocular vision). The HexSite® is placed directly on the threat where the shooter intends the bullet to hit. See the last picture on the left which depicts what a shooter will see when looking through the HexSite®.

Using a HexSite® removes the need to "focus on the front sight" in order to get combat accurate hits.  As such it continues to support threat-focused shooting without having to learn a new shooting paradigm.  The HexSite® was specifically designed for stressful situations where the user needs unobstructed binocular vision focus on the threat.

Looking through the sights verifies HexSite® alignment for accurate shot placement while operating under the physical limitations induced by a body alarm response.

Currently, JB Training LLC has  HexSite®s installed on the following guns: Multiple Glocks, S&W M&P, Springfield XD, SIG 229, 1911, and Remington 870 shotgun.  All work as advertised.  All but the Glocks were custom installs.

My students have an opportunity to shoot pistols with  a HexSite® and the response has been excellent. Many of them look forward to general availability on other models besides Glocks.

If you are in the vicinity of Oakwell Armory located in Kingsland, GA give me a call and stop by to see what these sights look like and how they shoot on the various guns.  If you just want to chat about the HexSite® give me a call at 904 430 3627 to discuss the HexSite® and my experiences with it.

Advantages of HexSite® Shooting

No Six O'clock hold needed
When using a HexSite® there is no need to maintain a six o’clock hold. Using the eyes natural ability to quickly center superimposed sight alignment onto a threat by looking through a hexagon shape, the shooter is able to accomplish sight alignment while  focusing on the threat. The shooter no longer has to focus on the spacing between the conventional post and notch or on the height of the front sight above the notch.

Binocular Vision Supported
Using binocular vision (both eyes open), the shooter focuses on the threat through the hexagon aperture. Because the human brain converts the hexagonal angles of the HexSite® into 16 reference points, the eye’s focus is involuntarily drawn to the precise center of the aperture without conscious effort or suggestive thought. Consequently, the requirement to focus on the front sight can be discarded as an unnecessary and unwanted distraction.

Effective for Cross Dominant Shooters
Shooters who are cross-dominant or who have visual acuity problems will find the HexSite® to be especially beneficial.  Other shooters without these limitations will  find that they shoot faster and with more accuracy, especially if they also employ point shooting when appropriate since acquisition of the threat is the same in both systems.  The only difference when doing sighted firing is the HexSite® is placed where the eyes can see and use it.

Faster, More Precise
Because of the interaction between the HexSite®, the eyes and the brain, acquiring a threat is faster, and more precise. Use of the HexSite® supports  effortless natural threat acquisition without the need for subjective thought.  The  HexSite® can be aligned with a softer unfocused plane of view. It provides full, unobstructed visual threat perception while utilizing binocular vision under stress. It provides the shooter a refined target alignment in any lighting conditions at reasonable and justifiable handgun distances when the target can be identified.

HexSite® Availability

The HexSite®  is currently available for all models of Glock pistols.  The HexSite®  is usable with most holsters.   The top three pictures  show the  HexSite® parts. The fourth picture shows the HexSite® mounted on a Glock 19. The fifth picture shows what the HexSite® looks like in a shooting hand.  The last picture depicts what a shooter sees with a threat focus.  Note that the threat is clear and the HexSite® is out of focus. The cost is $129.

JB Training LLC installs the HexSite® for local users. As a service to local users installation is included in the cost. Other users can order the HexSite® for self-install.  Contact us to order a HexSite®.
