Shoot/No Shoot Video Scenarios
The Shoot/No Shoot Video Scenario course is the latest addition to our Reality-Based Training program. It lets the participants see how fast an event can turn into a deadly confrontation. This type of training is becoming commonplace in police officer training programs.
With the addition of video-based Shoot/No Shoot training our students now have an opportunity to participate in a rare form of advanced training that will test their ability to deal with instances of criminal violence where the use of lethal force may or may not be required.
Course Content
The Shoot/No Shoot Video Scenarios course uses a series of common place scenarios that are projected on a screen. Examples of the types of scenarios used in the course are: your home, shopping, ATM, Road Rage, parking lot, kidnapping, and assault on the street plus others. Each of these scenarios are run multiple times. At least one of the scenarios in each set will not justify the use of lethal force. After each scenario is run, a critique of the participant's response is provided along with an assessment of whether innocent bystanders might have been injured as a result of the action. The participant will be asked to justify their use of lethal force using the ability, opportunity, and jeopardy criteria that form the legal basis for the use of lethal force. These critiques will help participants learn to deal with the aftermath of a shooting.
Equipment
The participant reacts to the scenes in the scenarios using a handgun with a laser insert that fires a laser beam each time the trigger is pulled. The handguns that are used in these scenarios are supplied as part of the course. The handguns used in this course operate in a double action mode which permits a laser shot to be taken each time the trigger is pulled. If a participant has a double action semi-automatic pistol they may be permitted to use their own handgun provided our laser inserts work with their gun. We have some adapters that can be used in Glock and XD pistols to permit them to work in double action mode.
Participant Actions
The participants are expected to issue verbal challenges, and if appropriate, draw their handgun and fire at the threat. The action begins with the participant's handgun carried the way they normally would on the street. The participant takes a position appropriate to the situation and then reacts to what is happening on the screen. Verbal commands, if appropriate, are to be used. When necessary the participant can draw their handgun and engage the threat with as many shots as are needed. The participant will be asked to justify any use of lethal force using the ability, opportunity, and jeopardy criteria that form the legal basis for the use of lethal force. If the participant brandishes their pistol that will be questioned as well.
Length of course - 2 to 4 hours
This course is offered on a request basis and can be run with a small number of students. It can be taught in any place where a projector and screen can be set up. It does not require a formal classroom but could be taught in a home location provided suitable space is available.
